Proposition 8, which allow only men and women to marry in the state of California, has passed with a slim margin in the 11/04/08 election. UNITE HERE, the labor movement and LGBT believe that this California Amendment is pure and simple discrimination. Our Union believe equality for workers is just as important for gay and lesbian.
Doug Manchester, owner of the Manchester Grand Hyatt, spent a great deal of money to place the proposition on the November ballot and to push for the amendment. Manchester is discriminating against his gay workers and discriminating against women by forcing housekeepers to clean more rooms than housekeepers do at other Hyatt Hotels. The workers at the Manchester Grand Hyatt also do not have job security. We will continue boycotting the Manchester Grand Hyatt. We are going to stand with the workers at the Manchester grand Hyatt and the Gay community until the Hyatt ends the hypocrisy and discrimination. Our Union has regular picket line and rally at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. We will be fighting and boycotting the Hotel until we win.
